In 1957, Dr. Irving Fradkin of Fall River, Massachusetts, had a dream.  The son of immigrants, Dr. Fradkin valued education as the most important freedom in America.  He realized that higher education was beyond the financial reach of many families.  So he formed a local scholarship foundation and called on his friends and area citizens to donate $1 or more to his foundation.  They were able to award 24 scholarships to young people that first year.

Dr. Fradkin's dream continued to grow, and in 1961, the Citizen's Scholarship Foundation of America (known as Scholarship America® today) was incorporated as a national organization.  Today, Scholarship America  is the only national organization dedicating its charitable purpose solely to the creation and support of community scholarship foundations (the Dollars for Scholars chapters).

Centerville-Abington Dollars for Scholars®, located in Centerville, IN, was chartered in March of 2004.  The operations of the organization are run by a board of dedicated volunteers, and we are partnered with the Wayne County Foundation to invest and manage our funds.  Since this beginning, our board has raised a total of $217,815 and granted 235 scholarships to graduating seniors of Centerville High School.
